If your company places packaging or products on the market, the law makes you responsible for the waste they generate once used. This is extended producer responsibility (EPR): registering, reporting what you place on the market every year and financing collection and recycling, through a collective EPR scheme (SCRAP) or an individual one (SIRAP).
At Heura Gestió Ambiental we have worked on EPR since 2001. We have designed collective schemes such as AEVAE, which we also manage, and we support manufacturers, packers, importers and online sellers in every EPR stream. We also help you adapt to the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) and, if you have no office in Spain or Portugal, we act as your authorized representative.
The EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) applies from 12 August 2026

PHASES OF EPR PROJECTS DEVELOPMENT
DETECTION
There are a large number of waste streams where the EPR model can provide new solutions oriented to process circularity. In this promotion phase, we are detecting and proposing the development of new projects based on EPR.
STUDY
In preparing and evaluating a project, the aim is to find the best solution for the business association, company or industry. There are several types of developments that help to comply with EPR obligations. At Heura we make an evaluation of the project goals, schedule and costs.
DESIGN
In this phase, we explored several alternative solutions for the EPR project, both legal, administrative and operational. It is also the time to define the activities, actions, specify the necessary resources and deadlines.
PILOT AND/OR
IMPLEMENTATION
In some cases it may be desirable to carry out a pilot test to demonstrate the feasibility of the plan in terms of operational costs. In this phase, the system is perfectly adjusted to the needs of the clients, since there are variables to work with for each different waste flow.
OPERATION
In general, this is the longest phase in the life cycle of EPR projects, because it is when the services that meet the needs of the system are generated. These tasks can be fully outsourced so that the client can focus on decision-making.
INNOVATION
Once an EPR system is operating, we review its processes and data to identify practical improvements in efficiency, traceability and environmental performance.
